Japanese Used Cars for Grenada - Import Rules & Shipping

Grenada's published Customs notice under SRO 43 of 2020 states that vehicles 10 years old and over are not permitted to enter Grenada unless the vehicle falls within a listed exemption.

Importing a non-exempt vehicle that exceeds the permitted age may result in the vehicle being unable to clear Customs and may expose the importer to penalties.

The exemptions listed in the published notice include certain agricultural tractors, some heavy goods vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, work trucks, motorcycles, racing and antique vehicles, and specified machinery, subject to the applicable conditions.

Grenada Customs requires importers or their authorized agents to submit the Customs declaration electronically through the ASYCUDA World system. Documents commonly used include:

• Commercial / supplier invoice
• Bill of Lading
• Customs declaration / Single Administrative Document (SAD)
• Vehicle and cargo description
• Freight and Customs Value information
• Import licences, permits or certificates where applicable
• Insurance certificate where the shipment is insured
• Other documents requested by Grenada Customs for the particular import

There is no single duty percentage that should be used for every vehicle imported into Grenada.

Customs charges depend on factors such as the vehicle's tariff classification, Customs Value, engine and vehicle type, age, applicable Environmental Levy, taxes and any concession for which the importer qualifies.

Grenada Customs publishes an Administrative Tariff containing the applicable rates for different vehicle classifications.

Before purchasing a vehicle, we recommend obtaining a current landed-cost estimate from Grenada Customs or a licensed customs broker using the specific vehicle details and CIF value.

The Port of St. George's is Grenada's principal commercial cargo port and handles general cargo and container traffic.

For Grenada-bound vehicles, we strongly recommend confirming current age eligibility before bidding because the Government has announced changes to the vehicle-age policy.

Used vehicle parts, dismantled vehicles and automotive components may be classified differently from complete motor vehicles for Customs purposes.
