Japanese Used Cars for Mozambique - Import Rules & Shipping

Flag of Mozambique

Kaede Trading Inc. helps customers in Mozambique source quality used cars, SUVs, vans, pickups and commercial vehicles from Japanese auctions and suppliers, with export documentation and shipping arrangements from Japan.

Before purchasing a vehicle for Mozambique, customers should confirm the current import eligibility requirements for the particular vehicle type. Requirements can change, and commercial vehicles may be subject to additional restrictions.

Japanese vehicles are commonly right-hand drive. Current Mozambique trade guidance specifically prohibits the import of left-hand-drive vehicles for commercial use.

Used vehicles are included among the regulated products under Mozambique's Conformity Assessment Programme (CAP).

Conformity assessment is handled through Intertek, the certification body authorized by Mozambique's National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ, IP). The assessment is carried out before shipment.

A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) must accompany regulated shipments and be presented during the import and customs-clearance process. Kaede Trading recommends confirming the current CAP requirements before purchasing or bidding on a vehicle.

Imported vehicles may be subject to customs duty, VAT and other applicable charges. The final amount depends on the vehicle's customs classification, customs value and the rules in force at the time of importation.

Because tariff rates and valuation can vary by vehicle, customers should obtain a current calculation from Mozambique Customs or a licensed local clearing agent before making a final purchase decision.

Documents commonly connected with importing a vehicle into Mozambique include:

  • Commercial invoice
  • Bill of Lading
  • Japanese Export Certificate or applicable vehicle export documentation
  • Certificate of Conformity (CoC), where required under Mozambique CAP
  • Customs-clearance documentation
  • Proof of payment of applicable customs duties and charges

For initial vehicle registration, INATRO requires customs and registration documents including the customs dispatch record, receipt for payment of customs duties and the Documento Único customs-clearance document. Additional application and vehicle-inspection documents are also required.

Major ports in Mozambique include Maputo, Beira and Nacala. Available shipping routes from Japan depend on the vehicle type, shipping line, sailing schedule and destination port.

RoRo or container shipping may be available depending on the current service. Kaede Trading can check the latest routing and estimated freight before you purchase a vehicle.

Kaede Trading can source used cars, SUVs, vans, pickups and commercial vehicles from Japanese auctions and domestic suppliers according to your budget and requirements.

Before purchasing, we recommend confirming the latest vehicle eligibility, CAP/CoC requirements, import costs and shipping arrangements for Mozambique.
